Lately I've been seeing brown lipsticks absolutely everywhere . From Kylie Jenners "true brown k" (which is practically impossible to get your hands on!) to simple drugstore collections . When I was in boots looking for a new lipstick I really wanted to give a brown one a go , but I'm not that brave just yet as to go for a colour like "true brown k" so I looked for a dark red with brown undertones.. And seemed to have found the perfect shade I was looking for.
The Rimmel Kate Moss collection is often talked about by beauty bloggers for their gorgeous shades of bright red so the collection was also on my list to try. The lipstick it's self cost £5.49 which is actually quite cheap, even for a drugstore product. The shade I chose is part of the Kate moss "nudes" collection.
I first applied the Rimmel 10000 kisses lip liner in cappuccino to define my lips and not make them look shapeless and deflated (always a must when you have little lips like me). Cappuccino is a medium brown colour which applies smoothly and softly and doesn't feel like you're scratching the hell out of your lips when you apply it. I then applied the lipstick onto my lips.
The lipstick itself is not drying at all and feels very soft on your lips , but because of its softness also smudges very easily, which can be a bit of a pain in the ass. The shade I purchased doesn't have a matte nor glossy finish , it just sits somewhere nicely in between. However, when I bought this product I was looking for a completely matte lipstick so if that is what you're looking for this might not be for you. When applied on the lips the colour itself looks like a darkish red with quite brown undertones , which is pretty and matches my personal every day eye makeup look.
The lipstick does not have an incredible staying power, I found that after a few hours it tended to all have dissapeared and I would only be left with smudged lip liner which isn't a very attractive look, so if you plan to wear this lipstick out for the day make sure you have it handy for re-applying. When eating and drinking I found the lipstick did not transfer onto cups and food which is always a bonus since eating lipstick and having to scrub it off of your favourite mug is never a fun task, however by the time I had finished my food/ drink the lipstick had completely dissapeared. But for the drugstore price of the lipstick this was not very surprising as I've yet to find a drugstore (non liquid) lipstick that doesn't come off when eating/drinking.
The shade I purchased is a very variable shade as you could either dress it up for a night out with your favourite LBD and smokey eye or you could wear it just to glam up your everyday makeup just to go into work or town with. If you're looking for a long lasting lipstick this definitely isn't the one for you, but if you're looking for a pretty red-brown shade of lipstick that you don't mind reapplying a couple of times then this just might be the one.
