“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”

A quote from Stephen R Covey , a late American educator and author . However it wasn't the author of this quote which made me interested in it , it was the deeper meaning behind the quote itself which made me inspired to write about it . 

The fact I chose to write about a quote that points out the fact people only listen to reply is a bit of an Irony to me , I'm doing exactly what the quote says , I'm listening to it with the intent to reply . My reply to this rests somewhere along the lines of : "listening to other people's stories and what they tell you of their experiences will of course help you understand the world in ways you might not have before" . Education is key . With knowledge comes the success of being able to answer questions that once upon a time you might not have been able to answer to . Though if instead of just listening to what people have to say to try and understand , ask questions . If you want to do something as complex as understand the way the world works or something as simple as finding out what someone ate for breakfast the other morning you have to reply . You are forced to question but the answers to those questions will soon become part of your knowledge which you will be able to use in millions of ways to your own advantage . Listen to reply but reply to understand. 

Listen with the intent to reply to people , let them know if you do or don't care , ask questions , be passionate and confident  about whatever it is you take interest in . Understand in a way that's individual to you .
